Wexham Slough Secondary School closed

Wexham Secondary School in Slough has been closed after a confirmed case of Swine Flu.

On further investigation, the Slough PCT also identified a number of other pupils and staff with influenza like illness over the last few days. In general, these pupils and staff members have had mild illnesses.

Please note, Wexham Primary School will NOT be closing.

The Slough school will be closed from 18 June 2009, for an initial period of seven days, except for those due to sit state and core examinations, for whom special arrangements will be made.

Anti-viral treatments will be distributed on site to all children, parents and teachers on Wednesday and Thursday this week, before they are sent home.

Slough Borough Council will continue to work closely with the PCT and Health Protection Agency.

Once away from school, any Slough pupils who develop symptoms (such as a raised temperature, a cough, runny nose, muscle and joint pain or headache) should contact their family doctor by telephone for advice and inform them of their contact with Wexham School. Anyone with symptoms should self isolate and limit contact with others.

Further information in relation to Swine Influenza and Tamiflu will be made available to pupils when they attend the assessment and treatment centre.

Anyone with concerns, or flu like symptoms, should contact the NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
