We’re on board in Slough – are you?

Slough Borough Council reaffirmed its commitment to tackling climate change today, September 1 2009, by signing up to a national scheme.

The Slough 10:10 campaign is a national drive to encourage thousands of ordinary individuals and organisations to cut their carbon emissions by ten percent during 2010.

The commissioner for Slough environment and open spaces, Cllr Satpal Parmar, signed up to the campaign at a special ceremony this afternoon at the Tate Modern in London.

Slough Borough Council is one of ten local authorities to have pledged to cut its carbon emissions by ten percent by December 2010 and to encourage its communities to do the same.

Roger Parkin, strategic director for improvement and development for Slough Borough Council, said: “The council is committed to improving the local environment, making Slough a great place to live, work and play.

“By signing up to the 10:10 campaign, we can start to make a real difference to our environment and climate. We need to inspire and encourage as many partners and residents as possible to work with us to make a meaningful difference on climate change.”

Slough Cllr Parmar added: “We’re delighted to be part of 10:10. Tackling climate change is one of the most important commitments we can make as a council and a town.

“There is a huge amount of good work already taking place in Slough to get ahead on this issue, reducing our carbon emissions and cutting our energy costs across the council and the borough.

“We hope our residents will be inspired by 10:10 and follow our example – every percent counts.”
