Wardens get on their Slough bikes

Slough Borough Council will be receiving new bikes for its community wardens to help them on their quest for a greener, safer Slough following a successful funding bid.

The Slough neighbourhood enforcement team put in the bid to The Safer Slough Partnership, to help improve the warden’s ability to travel through parks and the borough in a much greener way.

It will also help increase the visibility of wardens to residents, offering a reassuring presence in the community, as the bikes can easily be ridden on paths, as well as roads.

The bid was applied for to help improve community relations and improve perceptions of safety in the borough, with four new bikes being bought and three old bicycles restored.

Dympna Molloy, head of neighbourhood enforcement for Slough Borough Council, said: “We’re really pleased with the successful bid as this will give the wardens more flexibility to patrol wider geographical areas, make them more efficient and more visible to the community.

“It may not seem like much, but it will really help to keep the borough safer as the wardens can pretty much travel anywhere quickly if they need to. I’m also delighted that this new transport will minimise our impact on the environment.”

Commissioner for Slough neighbourhoods and renewal, Cllr James Swindlehurst, added: “This is great news, not only for the wardens, but for residents and their community.

“Having a highly visible presence around should help reduce any fear of crime and I hope residents will take the time to get to know their local community warden and help keep Slough a cleaner, safer and greener place to be.”
