Residents turned out in strength to Slough Borough Council’s ‘activities for £1’ open day at Langley Community Centre on Friday, August 15, 2008.
Slough Football sessions for £1 – just one of the activities on offer this August.The council’s community management team organised the day as a taster of the activities on offer this summer at the Langley, Haymill, Upton Lea and Thames Valley community centres.
A number of organisations such as, Age Concern, Juice Plus, ABC boxing and GKR held stands to give an idea of activities.
Children also had fun enjoying a bouncy castle, table tennis and football matches.
Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart attended the open day, along with local councillors, to thank members of public for their enthusiasm.
Frank Toner, assistant director for health and social care at Slough Borough Council, said: “The sessions underline our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of residents and encouraging active engagement in sport.
“The open day was a great success, with over 150 residents coming along to see how they can get involved and get active this summer.”
Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, commissioner for Slough community and leisure, said: “The community management team did a fantastic job arranging the open day.
“It provided a great deal of information and I would encourage residents to book a session whilst they’re still available.”
