Slough will be celebrating its Christmas light switch on in style this year, with not one, but two main celebrity acts to mark the start of the festive season and late night shopping.
To help gear up the Slough crowd on November 20 and get them ready for fun, the stage will be host to Britain’s got Talent favourites, Signature, before up and coming singer, Richard Fleeshman takes centre stage with four new songs.
Many Slough die hard fans of Coronation Street will remember that Richard played Craig Harris in the hit TV soap, but left in search of his dream of making it in the music business.
He appeared on Soap Star, Super Star in 2006 and has now finished making his debut album, Neon, at the tender age of 18. He recorded the album at West London’s famous Kensal Town Studios, where the likes of James Morrison, Ben’s Brother and KT Tunstall made use of the innovative facilities.
The Christmas light switch on will take place in the newly landscaped Slough Town Square, accompanied by fireworks and a snow machine to create the perfect winter scene.
It all starts at 3.30pm with the lights being switched on at 6pm.
But before all this, West Wing Arts Centre will be there with an excerpt of its pantomime, Beauty and the Beast.
Susan Duncan, Slough Borough Council’s events manager, said: “I’m really excited that Richard is coming to town to entertain the residents, along with the much loved Signature, who I’m sure will go down a storm with everyone.”
Paul Clifford, Slough’s QueensmereObservatory manager, added: “This will be a great event for all and is free for anyone to attend. It will also mark the start of late night shopping for all those who want to get their Christmas presents early.”
Commissioner for Slough community and leisure, Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, said: “We’re very excited that Richard Fleeshman and Signature are coming to Slough to switch on the lights.
“It’s also great to see local acts participating and setting the mood for Christmas. The annual event always attracts thousands of people, and this year will be no exception.
“I hope everyone who goes enjoys themselves and the late night shopping.“
