A 37-year-old Slough man has today (30/5) been jailed for 18 years for attempting to murder his wife.
Manjit Singh Sandhu, of Blandford Road South, Langley, Slough was sentenced at Reading Crown Court this afternoon. Sandhu was found guilty of attempted murder following a four day trial.
The sentence follows an incident that took place on 29 September 2007 at the couple’s marital home in Slough, during which Sandhu stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife, causing serious wounds to her hands and neck. Sandhu also attempted to strangle her.
Police were called to the scene after neighbours reported the incident and cordoned the area to look for witnesses. Sandhu had fled from the scene in the family car but shortly returned where he was apprehended from the car and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Mrs Sandhu was taken to Wexham Park Hospital where she was treated for deep wounds to both her hands and neck.
Slough Det Sgt Lisa Everard said: “I would like to thank everyone who worked hard and provided support and assistance during this investigation which has resulted in this excellent verdict. In particular, I would like to thank the victim and witnesses for their support.
She added: “Young children were present at the family home when the incident occurred and this would have been naturally very distressing for them. It was in fact one of the children who raised the alarm with a neighbour who in return contacted the police.”
