Slough Borough Council’s overview and scrutiny (O&S) panel will be holding regular surgeries at the Town Hall.
The Slough meetings will provide elected members and residents with an opportunity to put forward ideas for consideration at future scrutiny meetings. This is a new venture and so far, two surgeries have already taken place with residents and elected members taking part.
These meetings do not include casework or individual complaints.
In local government, O&S seeks to achieve greater accountability, efficiency and transparency in council decision making.
The Slough council’s O&S panel, chaired by Cllr Mann and vice-chair, Cllr Coad Chair, acts as a check and balance on the cabinet. It also aims to improve the quality of council decisions and services.
Members of O&S and the scrutiny panels will carry out reviews of services, procedures and, where necessary, recommend changes to council policy. This work will be carried out by informal task and finish scrutiny groups.
The value of scrutiny in modern and effective government is not only to hold executives to account, but also to create a constructive dialogue between the public and its elected representatives.
The surgeries will take place from 3pm to 4pm in the Slough Town Hall on:
* Tuesday, August 4 – Mayors Conference Room
* Tuesday, September 1 – Mayors Conference Room
* Tuesday, September 15 – Mayors Conference Room
* Tuesday, September 29 – Mayors Conference Room
Slough Borough Council is committed to improving the local environment, making Slough a better place to live, work and play.
