Robbery at Slough supermarket

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a robbery at a supermarket in Slough on New Year’s Eve (31/12).

At approximately 8.10am, two men entered the Co-op store in Scafell Road, Slough, and threatened the female members of staff with a meat cleaver.

One man filled a bag with cigarettes while the other forced the staff to open the Slough store’s safe and took the contents. The robbers then left the store and turned right towards Northmead Road.

Both men are about 6ft, aged 25 to 40. They wore scarves to cover their faces.

Fortunately no one was injured during this incident; however the staff were very shaken by what happened.

Slough Det Con Sally Spencer, investigating officer, said: "This is a small local shop in a residential area where the community is very close knit. I believe that the offenders may live locally and there are people out there who know who has committed this crime. I urge them to come forward and tell the police.

"The three female staff in the shop were left very distressed by the experience. They could have been a member of anyone’s family or a friend. I often hear people say they don’t want to be a ‘grass’ but it is important that the community supports each other. By contacting the police or Crimestoppers you can let the criminals know that their behaviour is not acceptable and that they are not welcome in the community."

Det Con Spencer can be contacted on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to the police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
