Visitors to Slough Cippenham Library will soon be able to enjoy a wealth of activities in comfortable, modern surroundings as the refurbished Slough site on Elmshott Lane takes shape.
The Slough building has been extended in order to expand the space available for community facilities and work is continuing in preparation for the opening in spring 2009.
The new look Cippenham Community Library, Slough will have additional space for a toy room, a sensory garden, an activity room and a newly relocated MyCouncil service point with private discussion area.
There will also be facilities for parents to warm bottles and baby food.
The schedule of activities will focus on healthy eating, adult learning, the sensory garden and under five’s child development. These will be lead by volunteers who are compiling a programme of events for the year ahead.
Building work began on the site at Elmshott Lane, Slough in September 2008, following successful funding of £798,189 from the Big Lottery.
Ruth Lebosi, Cippenham Library supervisor for Slough Borough Council, said: “Residents will have noticed the development really start to take shape over the past few months.
“With the extension up, we’re on our way to a fantastic new community facility.
“Activities at the library will emphasise involvement from residents, encouraging them to get involved with projects and design activities to suit the local community.
“We’re still recruiting volunteers for the project, with opportunities to get involved with publicity, events and planning activities around healthy eating and adult learning.
“It’s easy to volunteer. You don’t need qualifications or past experience, just enthusiasm, a willingness to help others learn and the capacity to commit a regular period of time each week.”
Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, commissioner for Slough community and leisure, said: “Once complete, the refurbished library will offer great facilities for visitors.
“If you’d like to get involved with your local library and put some key experience on your CV, get in touch with staff and offer your services as a volunteer now.”
Cippenham Library opening hours are:
