Slough Borough Council and Thames Valley Police will be holding a public meeting for residents of Upton to speak out about community safety issues on Wednesday 10 June.
The Slough meeting starts at 7.30pm at the United Reform Church, on Church Street and aims to keep people informed about the actions to tackle problems in their community.
It is one of many scheduled Slough public meetings over the next six months in which council officers and neighbourhood policing teams will work together to build a joint dialogue with the public. They will address issues such as crime, anti-social behaviour and local environmental concerns.
Kam Bhatti, neighbourhood crime and justice co-ordinator for Slough Borough Council, said: “Although existing public meetings are well used where there are specific issues, we know they’re not routinely attended by the majority of the public.
“However, most people do want to be kept informed about action being taken to tackle local problems and so we are holding more frequent community meetings to give them the information they need.
“I’d really encourage the people of Upton to come down and make the most of getting their voice heard.”
Introduced as part of the government’s Justice Seen, Justice Done campaign, the Slough meetings are intended to increase public confidence in the criminal justice system and the local authority, reduce the fear of crime and reassure people that their concerns are being dealt with.
Topics discussed at the meetings will include local policing and neighbourhood priorities, and the actions being taken by police and their partners to tackle them.
Insp Jon Goosey, community safety inspector for Slough Local Police Area, said: “The meetings will provide another opportunity for people to meet their neighbourhood policing team and to learn more about the work of Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) in improving the quality of life in their community.
“Through the neighbourhood pages on the Thames Valley Police website we already provide up-to-date information about crime in your area, as well as monthly updates on the progress we are making in addressing local priorities.
“There’s a lot of information available, but you can’t talk to a website. That’s why we hope people will come along and meet their neighbourhood officers and our local authority partners face to face.”
