Slough Borough Council is reassuring residents that the borough’s recycling and refuse collections will continue as normal and are unaffected by the fire at the Grundon facility in Colnbrook.
The Slough town’s recycled waste, which would normally go to the materials recovery facility (MRF) in Colnbrook, is now being diverted to another Grundon facility in Beenham, near Reading.
Slough Refuse will be collected as normal and transferred to large containers at Chalvey civic amenity site, before being sent to landfill.
Nigel Dicker, Slough Borough Council’s assistant director of environmental services and quality, said: “We have plans in place to cope with situations like this and now these plans have been put into action.
“We hope it is only for the short term but I would like to reassure residents that collections will be continuing as normal and recyclable waste, put in the red bins, will still be sorted and sent for recycling.”
Councillor Satpal Parmar, commissioner for Slough environment and open spaces, said: “Despite the fire at Colnbrook, residents can continue to recycle without any worries as, though we have to take the recycling a little bit further, it will still be sorted and processed as usual.
“Rubbish collections are not affected either – so residents should continue to put their bins out in the normal way.”
