Slough Borough Council is asking residents for their opinions on the condition and age of minicabs in the borough.
Residents can give their opinion on the condition and age of mini-cabs in Slough. The current age policy for private hire vehicles, also known as mini cabs, states that vehicles licensed for the first time must be less than five years of age.
Existing Slough minicabs can be licensed up to nine years of age, at which point they must be replaced with a newer vehicle.
The council have produced an online questionnaire as part of the consultation into the age policy of private hire vehicles in the town.
The consultation and results of the questionnaire will see one of two outcomes:
* The policy remains as above.
* The age policy is removed, and as a result drivers of vehicles of any age can apply for a private hire licence, as long as the vehicle passes the Certificate of Compliance (similar to an MOT) and other relevant licensing conditions.
Donna Harrison, senior licensing officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “The questionnaires will provide valuable insight from residents and business to assist with the review of the current policy.
“A number of factors need to be taken into account, particularly the town’s image and how residents and visitors will view aging mini-cabs.”
Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, commissioner for community and leisure, said: “It’s important to consider environmental implications such as newer cars producing lower emissions, as well as the economic prosperity of drivers.”
Feedback can be submitted via the questionnaire, found elsewhere on this site, by Friday September 5, 2008.
