Police are warning elderly residents to be on their guard after a man was targeted by a fraudster in Slough.
On Thursday 11 September, an 89-year-old man was visited at his home in the Farnham Road, Slough area by a man claiming to be a builder who had done some work on his property about 15 years ago.
There then followed a series of phone calls and another visit from the “builder,” saying that the elderly man owed VAT on work that had been carried out previously.
Eventually on 16 September, the resident handed over a sum of money to the man.
Det Con Christian Bryant of Slough CID said: “We are looking for a white man, about 5ft 10ins, who speaks with a local accent. We are concerned that he may try similar tactics in order to deceive other elderly people into parting with substantial amounts of cash.”
If you saw anyone behaving suspiciously in the area at the time, or have any other information about this incident, please contact Det Con Bryant on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
