People 1st Slough achieves 81 percent satisfaction

People 1st (Slough) has received a welcomed boost from its customers after a survey carried out showed an overall satisfaction rate of more than 81 percent by tenants.

The Slough survey was carried out by the SNAP research organisation in the autumn of 2009 and was conducted as part of a national performance indicator required by the government. It received responses from 1,768 tenants in what is a comprehensive measure of how well the organisation is performing.

A similar survey conducted in 2006, when People 1st (Slough) was first set up, showed a satisfaction level then of 65 percent.

Other good news included:

* 84 percent of Slough tenants were satisfied with the overall quality of their home (Ten percent dissatisfied)
* 78 percent were satisfied with the general condition of their property (15 percent dissatisfied)
* 77 percent were satisfied with the value for money for their rent (11 percent dissatisfied)
* 76 percent were satisfied with the neighbourhood as a place to live (16 percent dissatisfied).

Chair of the Slough People 1st Board, Nigel Bailey, was very encouraged by the results. He said: “The survey is an important snapshot with respect to our performance from a completely independent source. After four years it is gratifying to see we are making good progress in terms of meeting the needs of tenants. I know both my fellow board members and all our staff will see this as a positive commendation as we seek to build on this progress in 2010.”

Commissioner for Slough neighbourhoods and renewal, Cllr James Swindlehurst, added: “I am pleased People 1st has made real progress in some areas of its customer services, and that the major investment in improving kitchens, bathrooms and communal areas as part of the Decent Homes Programme has made a real difference for tenants. Everyone has a right to good quality housing, and we are progressing well in achieving this goal. As Decent Homes work continues I am confident that satisfaction will continue to improve.”
