Noise Slough Action Week

Slough Borough Council will be joining in with the national Noise Action Week, May 18 to 22, to give residents advice and assistance over noise concerns.

Noise can cause disruption and distress to everyone either at home, at leisure, at work and/or at study. National research shows two fifths of the population say noise affects their quality of life and in 2008, half a million people moved home because of noisy neighbours.

During the Slough week, the council would like everyone to:

* consider the noise they make and the effect it has on others
* consider the noises that disturb them
* take practical steps to reduce the noise they make where possible

The Slough council’s neighbourhood enforcement team will be at the following places to provide advice and assistance regarding noise related issues/concerns on:

* Monday, May 18, Tesco Extra, Brunel Way, Slough from 10am to 2pm
* Tuesday, May 19, Tesco Extra, Brunel Way, Slough from 10am to 2pm
* Wednesday, May 20 Asda, Telford Drive, Slough from 10am to 2pm
* Friday, May 22 Asda, Telford Drive, Slough from 10am to 2pm

Sarah Hines-Randall, senior technical enforcement officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “As part of the council’s initiative to make the borough a better place to live, work and play, it’s essential everyone has the right to live in peace and quiet.

“Noisy neighbours can make some people’s lives unbearable with either loud music playing all hours of the day, arguing and shouting, DIY work or dogs allowed to bark continuously.

“During Noise Action Week, we will be advising people on how to cope with noisy neighbours and give them information on what to do.”

Commissioner for Slough environment and open spaces, Cllr Satpal Parmar, added: “Noise can make people’s lives very uncomfortable, especially if they’re living next door to people who are constantly playing loud music and have no concerns for others.

“I would urge everyone in Slough to remember their neighbours and to be considerate. If you are going to have a party which might run till late, why not let your neighbours know and be prepared to turn the volume down if asked.”

The Slough neighbourhood enforcement team, licensing and food and safety teams will also be visiting various premises in Slough during the evening of Thursday May 21, to monitor noise levels both externally and for those working within the premises.
