Slough Borough Council has received £1,089,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to accomplish phase four of its garage developments.
Paradigm Housing Group is the successful Slough Registered Social Landlord on this occasion and the money will provide 18 family size units on seven different garage sites, to include –
* 7 x 4 bedrooms
* 1 x 5 bedroom
* 1 x 2 bedroom
* 9 x 3 bedroom
Of these, six sites will be located in Britwell and one at Wexham. The Slough homes will be built for social rented housing and the development will start this April. In addition, Paradigm are working on two further garage sites in Britwell, which will hopefully provide a further three family units.
These developments follow other garages sites turned into houses in Britwell at Egerton Rd, Gascons Grove and Chilwick Road.
Jackie Reynolds, housing development officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “We’re committed to ensuring there is top quality housing available for residents in Slough and this will help immensely. We’re extremely pleased to have been given the grant.”
Commissioner for Slough neighbourhoods and renewal, Cllr James Swindlehurst, added: “With a long housing waiting list, providing additional homes is of paramount importance. We have already provided over 400 hundred new homes in the last two years, and we are committed to providing more.
“This funding is great news, and means that more disused garage sites will be redeveloped into much needed homes, not only removing surplus garages but also the anti-social behaviour and fly tipping that all too often gathers around these sites.”
