The charity appeal fund of the Mayor of Slough, Councillor Joginder Bal received a boost on Sunday (9 August) with a £500 donation.
The donation, from the Slough Singh Sabha Sikh Temple, was made to formally acknowledge Councillor Bal’s long service to the temple and the Slough community and to honour his office as the first citizen of the borough.
Slough Councillor Bal was presented with the cheque for £500 by President of the Gurdwara, Mr Ajit Singh Purewal. He was also presented with a picture of Maharaja Daleep Singh who was the last king of Panjab.
The Mayoress, Mrs Surinder Bal and the Deputy Mayor, councillor Jagjit Grewal were also present to hear the tributes.
The Mayor has been a member of the Slough temple since he was 13 and when he was just 17 started a Kabbadi Club which is still running today.
He said: “I am touched and very proud of the honour given to me by the Singh Sabha Sikh Temple.
“I hope that during my year as Mayor I can live up to their expectations and continue to serve the town to the best of my ability.”
The Mayor’s charity appeal fund runs throughout the year with the Mayor choosing which charity the money will be donated to.
This year the Mayor has chosen Wexham Park Hospital as the recipient of the fund.
