Slough Residents who want to kick start the New Year and improve job prospects can attend the Slough Jobs and Careers event on Thursday, January 29.
The annual job opportunities exhibition is organised by Prospect Events and sponsored by Slough Borough Council, and will take place at Montem Sports Centre, from 10.30am to 6pm.
Residents can search for their ideal job, get advice and information from top Slough employers and for the first time, participate in special advice workshops.
The council and business partners from across Slough will be holding workshops to provide information on:
* Top ten tips on how to job search
* CV writing skills
* Interview techniques
* Advice on setting up a business
The workshops will take place at intervals through the day, and will be specifically targeting those at risk or fear of redundancy however everyone is welcome to participate.
There will be an opportunity to meet advice agencies providing debt and employment advice.
Agencies attending the Slough exhibition include Jobcentre Plus, Enterprise Centre, Learn Direct, Cyber Café, Hub and Spoke, Age Concern and Citizens Advice.
Rafiq Chohan, assistant director of economic development and inclusion for Slough Borough Council, said: “Jobs and Careers Slough will bring together the best local employers, training providers and great local employees.
“The exhibition and workshops are informative and informal so there won’t be any interviews, just the chance to meet the teams and find out more about local businesses looking for staff like you.”
Cllr Patricia O’Connor, commissioner for Slough opportunities and skills, said: “I’d encourage residents to come along and meet with top employers face-to-face in an informal atmosphere to find out what it would be like working for them.
“Last year’s exhibition was a huge success, with nearly 40 companies and over 1,300 visitors, and with the addition of these helpful workshops, residents can get advice, or even a new career path, to suit them.”
Jobs and Careers Slough is a free event, open from 10.30am to 6pm.
