High street Slough road closures

Slough Borough Council will be carrying out improvement works in the Slough High Street from the January 5, 2009 for a maximum period of 12 weeks resulting in some road closures.

The Slough roads closed to vehicle traffic will be between Windsor Road and Church Street and Alpha Street North to The Grove.

The Slough work will include the construction of a new road surface using imported granite paving blocks and will be carried out by Enterprise PLC, in partnership with the council, as part of the major Art at the Centre street enhancement scheme.

Although many aspects of the work have already been completed, the construction of this particular phase requires the closure of Slough High Street from Windsor Road through to Church Street up to Chapel Street and from Alpha Street North up to The Grove.

While every effort will be made to minimize the disruption, the council is appealing to all drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution until this section of the work has been completed.

Buses will be on diversion from Herschel Street and the Grove. Signs will be erected all across the High Street to advise shoppers and drivers.

Roger Kirkham, principal planning officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “These diversions and road closures are to help us in our quest to complete the Art at the Centre project and we will make sure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.”

Commissioner for neighbourhoods and renewal, Slough Cllr James Swindlehurst, added: “As with any major revitalisation, there will always be times when diversions will be needed for both foot traffic and vehicles.

“The council, along with Enterprise PLC, have tried very hard to work out a way in which certain roads can be closed whilst making sure disruption is kept to a minimum for users.

“I would urge everyone using the High Street to familiarise themselves with the diversion signs and to please bear with us as we move towards completing the exciting project for the town.”
