A special piece of artwork will be making its place in Slough history this Thursday, November 13 from 9.30am to 3pm, when residents will be urged to take part and leave messages for future generations to come.
The messages will be part of a new sculpture called The Radar, which will be set at the west entrance to the Slough High Street, outside MyCouncil, as part of the Art at the Centre scheme and will light up like a giant beacon.
Anyone wishing to leave a message can do so by going along to the workshop outside Primark in the Observatory shopping Centre and writing on the special foil sheets provided which will be embedded into an acrylic lens.
The silver foil will be embedded into the acrylic and will create a dramatic effect at night when light shines through the lens and is reflected off the silver foil.
The artwork has been designed by artist Simon Watkinson, who will be on hand in the Observatory, inviting people to write their name or message for people to read.
Simon is one of five artists who have been working with Art at the Centre to design and make artwork for the High Street that will reflect Slough’s communities, culture and history.
Simon has been inspired by Herschel, as depicted in more of his artwork.
Andy Lee, creative arts manager for Slough Borough Council, said:” This is going to be a fantastic piece of artwork for everyone in Slough to enjoy and be part of.
“Simon thought it was a great way to reflect the people of Slough and to invite them all to write a message that will be part of the artwork.”
Commissioner for neighbourhoods and renewal, Cllr James Swindlehurst, added:"It’s fantastic that this artistic project will involve the community and leave a legacy for future years in the High Street. It will make a great contribution overall to Art at the Centre."
