Health and safety bible for Slough businesses

Slough Borough Council’s food and safety team have devised a special handbook for businesses on health and safety issues at work.

The new booklet, to be sent out gradually over the next couple of months, will be distributed during inspections, with copies available in libraries and council buildings.

It can also be downloaded from the council’s website.

The handbook will cover issues such as:

* The protection of employees and those who may be exposed to risk
* Promoting health and safety awareness, and
* Enhancing workplace safety

The book gives employers and employees up-to-date information and practical advice on how to comply with health and safety legislation.

Copies are available by request either by calling 01753 875255 or emailing foodandsafety@slough.gov.uk

Thomas Kilduff, senior environmental health officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “This handbook will be an ideal tool for all businesses in the borough.

“It’s essential that anyone employing people knows exactly what health and safety regulations need to be put in place, and the same goes for any public using the business facilities.

“This handbook will help with that and we are always here to answer any questions.”

Commissioner for community and leisure, Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, added: “These handbooks should be read by all businesses as they will help to prevent any health and safety hazards that may occur otherwise.

“It’s extremely important that employers look after their staff, the public and the business.”
