Slough Borough Council is asking residents for their views on whether the town’s ‘no casino’ policy should be renewed.
In 2006, the Slough council put the policy in place to prevent a casino being opened in the borough and residents are being asked whether it should be renewed for another three years, until 2012.
Feedback needs to be given by May 26, 2009. Click here to take part in the consultation.
Considerations for not having a Slough casino may include:
* the effect on vulnerable people and their families
* personal and religious beliefs
* concerns that it may encourage criminal activity
Considerations for having a Slough casino may include:
* the creation of employment opportunities
* a positive effect on the local economy
* giving residents the choice of another local recreational activity
Paul Symons, licensing officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “We’re encouraging resident to have their say about this policy.
“If you don’t have internet access, you can submit a response in writing, stating whether you think the casino policy should be renewed, and any additional comments. Tell us your views by May 26, so we can take them into account.”
Commissioner for Slough community and leisure, Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, added: “Everyone has an opinion about gambling and now is your chance to have your say.
“Let us know whether you think a casino should be allowed in Slough or if you are opposed to it. Your view counts.”
