Slough Borough Council will be giving away free compost to Slough residents at Wexham Nursery, Wexham Road on Sunday, May 10, from 10am until 1pm.
The Slough compost is produced from garden waste collected through the council’s green bin collection scheme.
Grass, hedge cuttings, branches and leaves are recycled to produce a rich, dark compost which can be used to feed and condition soil and make potting mixes for garden plants.
Slough Residents will also be able to pick up free bags of wood chips collected from trees felled in Slough. The wood chips can be used to line garden paths and dried out to be used as mulch.
There will be information available on the day about recycling in Slough and a home composting expert will be on hand to give residents advice about producing their own compost.
Sarah Bryan, environmental quality officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “I encourage all residents to come along to Wexham Nursery, near Wexham Park Hospital, and pick up their free bag of compost and wood chips.
“It’s a great way to reuse waste collected from the green bins, and demonstrates how committed the town is to improving our environment.”
Cllr Satpal Parmar, commissioner for Slough environment and open spaces, said: “As part of the cleaner, safer, greener campaign we’re urging residents to consider the benefits of recycling.
“The free green waste bins offered by the council are a really great way of making those small, but effective changes in our households.
“Stocks of compost and wood chip are limited, so get there early for your free bag.”
Wexham Nursery will be open as usual from 10am to 4pm on the day, with a wide range of spring plants and shrubs for sale.
