Slough Borough Council is spreading the word about the new weekly recycling scheme in the town by flying lamppost banners on the Bath Road.
Slough council hopes the banners will raise awareness of the new red bin recycling scheme which will be rolled out to residents in the Autumn, and encourage people to recycle more of their household waste.
In October and November 2008, households will be delivered new red recycling wheelie bins which will take paper, card, food and drinks cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles.
The red bins will replace the black box scheme to ensure that residents can recycle more than ever before.
Recycling will continue to be collected weekly, on the same day as waste in the grey bins. Green waste will continue to be collected fortnightly although collection dates will be changing from 1st September. All residents on the scheme will be written to with a new collection calendar.
Slough Residents will receive further information about the changes to recycling in September, as well as when the new red bins are delivered. In the meantime, for more details visit our recycling pages which are elsewhere on this site or visit the red wheelie bin displays at MyCouncil and the libraries.
Cllr Sat Pal Parmar, commissioner for environment and open spaces, said: “Making Slough greener is one of the new cabinet’s top priorities. We want to make it easier for residents to recycle more and this is why we have introduced a new weekly recycling scheme. We know that fortnightly collections are inconvenient but the new scheme is a positive change that will go towards making Slough a cleaner, safer and greener place to live.
“I hope these banners along with our other engagement with the community will help spread the message that Slough is serious about recycling.”
“I would urge all residents when they get their red bin, to use it to its full potential to help reduce the tons of waste that go into landfill every year.”
Nigel Dicker, head of Slough environmental services, said: “We want to ensure that every resident is aware of the new scheme before the red bins arrive at houses around the borough. The lamppost banners will help to give the red bins visibility as residents drive, walk or cycle into the town centre.
The new red bin scheme is the result of what residents told us they wanted from recycling in the future. The new bins will make recycling at home easier and enable residents to recycle more than they ever have before.”
