Extra Slough police patrols crack down on robbery

Police in Slough have launched an operation to crack down on street robbery and snatch thefts. Code-named Operation Cavendish, the Slough initiative began on Monday 26 January.

Det Insp Nicky Hurdley, who heads the Priority Crime Team in Slough, said: “We have deployed extra officers to provide a rapid response to robberies and to deter crime. Dedicated police cars, both marked and unmarked, will be patrolling Slough six days a week from now until at least the end of March.

“Their role is to respond immediately to reports of robbery and snatch theft, thereby increasing the likelihood of catching the offenders.

“As well as attending incidents, the officers will be patrolling areas identified as robbery hotspots, based on an analysis of crime patterns across Slough. They will be looking out for people behaving suspiciously, and carrying out stop checks as appropriate.”

Supt Chris Shead, commander of Slough local police area, said: “We’ve put lots of extra officers on the streets to deal with robbery and theft. Early indications are that the operation is having some success, but we will evaluate its impact after it has been running for a while longer.

“We’re determined to stamp out street crime in our area. The increased police presence will provide reassurance to the public and deter potential offenders. If you’re out and about in Slough intending to commit crime, you can expect to get your collar felt.”
