Excellence award for Slough adult respite service

Slough Borough Council’s adult respite service, Respond, has been awarded a three-star ‘excellent’ rating following an unannounced Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).

Respond, which assists Slough people with learning disabilities and their parents or carers, is inspected by the CSCI regularly and at times without warning, to ensure services are in line with good practice.

It’s run from a purpose built bungalow in the Slough town centre, with quality equipment and facilities to meet the complex and diverse needs of users.

There is a highly qualified team of 14 staff, offering 24 hour care and support to those using the service.

Staff are skilled, committed and able to assist in the personal, social, emotional, health and financial care needs.

Paul Nicoll, registered manager of Respond, said: “We provide planned and emergency respite care for approximately 80 people on a rolling basis.

“At any one time, the service can provide for eight service users, so this three-star rating is greatly reassuring for them and their carers, knowing they’re in the best possible hands.

“We will continue to work to ensure this extremely high standard is maintained.”

Cllr Chrissy Small, commissioner for Slough health and wellbeing, said: “Everyone involved with the fantastic running of Respond should be proud of this achievement.”
