Young people in Slough could win and design their very own Nike trainers by entering a once-in-a-life-time competition for Slough Young Peoples Centre (SYPC).
SYPC would like anyone aged from 13 to 25 to design a logo for its brand new YoungStar Talent Search 2009, with the winner going to London to the NikeID studios to design their very own trainers to take home.
To be in with a chance, logos need to be set around the main audition sector, such as –
* Dance
* Drama (including spoken word)
* Production (inc radio broadcasting)
* MC’ing
* Comedy
* Crazy skills
The talent show, held next March, will see young people from around the borough audition in front of a panel of industry professionals to win a professional mentor and career development grant.
There will be six open auditions held in Slough at schools, colleges and youth centres, culminating in a grand finale event, where the winning performance will be decided on.
The logo designs should be sent to Youngstar 2009, Slough Young People’s Centre, 323 High Street Slough, SL1 1TX by the closing date of Friday, December 5, 2008.
Karlene Palmer, Youngstar project co-ordinator for SYPC, said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity for young people in Slough. Not everyone can say they’ve designed their own Nike trainers.
“The YoungStar talent search will be huge next year, and I really want to encourage people to audition, or even become part of the team to help organise the event.”
They are currently recruiting volunteers to be part of this project to gain experience in event planning, web design, stage management, publicity, marketing and leadership skills.
Anyone wishing to boost their skills and CV, should email karlene.palmer@slough.gov.uk, come down to SYPC, 323 High Street, Slough or call 01753 539300.
Karlene added: “Slough gets so much stick for being dull and lacking talent, but we’re going to put on the largest diverse search of talent this town has ever seen. Whatever you’re good at, we want to see you at the auditions in March.”
Commissioner for Slough opportunity and skills, Cllr Patricia O’Connor, said: “The whole Youngstar project is such a fantastic idea and I hope many young people in Slough will take part.
“Good luck to those entering the competition and why not join the team too for a real creative experience.”
Slough Borough Council.
