Slough Borough Council is encouraging residents to banish the blues of the credit crunch by visiting their local library for best value entertainment in town.
At all four libraries; central Slough, Cippenham, Britwell and Langley, visitors can read a newspaper, surf the net, check email accounts and borrow best-selling books for free.
The libraries have contemporary lifestyle sections, with books how to grow your own produce to save money, or how maintain a healthy mind and body in times of increased stress and anxiety.
A weekly job club is also held at the library on Thursday mornings to help people gain confidence and skills to help them find work.
In addition, short introductory courses are offered help people develop their computer skills.
Gaynor Baveystock, principal librarian for inclusion and learning at Slough Borough Council, said: “With prices rising and the credit crunch biting, come on down to your local library– it’s free and easy to join, and gives you access to a whole world of information and enjoyment.
“There are CDs and recorded books for hire and for less than the cost of a standard cinema ticket, families can borrow blockbuster DVDs – and only need to provide the popcorn themselves.”
