Council corners off Slough crime hotspots

Slough Borough Council is continuing its efforts to make the town and its residents safer by reducing anti-social behaviour.

The Slough council’s community safety team have responded to concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour taking place in privately owned alleyways.

In Waterbeach Road in the Baylis and Stoke area, a total of 12 gates have been erected to section off inter-connected alleyways which were crime hotspots.

Seven gates have been installed at Mendip Close and Cheviot Road in Langley, Slough with a further seven gates being considered in Grampian Way and Peterhead Mews.

In Littlebrook Avenue, Haymill, a favourite congregation spot for youths engaging in anti-social behaviour has been cordoned off.

A fence has also been installed outside a block of flats in Station Road near Cippenham Bowls Club, to prevent youths from sitting on top of a low brick wall and committing anti-social behaviour.

Vinay Vyas, community safety project officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “We’re committed to creating safer communities in the town and are heartened by the level of time and effort put in by some residents, in assisting with our projects.

“By improving areas reported by local people to be crime spots we can work with them and gain their cooperation to ensure the gated alleyways are maintained.”

Cllr James Swindlehurst, commissioner for Slough neighbourhoods and renewal, said: “The community safety team have made a sustained effort to respond to residents’ concerns and tackle hotspots of anti-social behaviour and crime.

“It’s fantastic to see the number of gates in place, which should go along way to reassuring people we are committed to reducing crime and the fear of crime to make Slough a safer place.”

To report any anti-social behaviour (ASB), abandoned vehicles, fly-tipping or graffiti, call the council’s ASB hotline on 0845 605 2222.
