Slough Borough Council is putting an urgent appeal out to businesses in the borough for more pallets following an incident last night at Upton Court Park.
Vandals entered the park on the evening of Wednesday 5 November and broke down the fencing surrounding the 30 foot Slough bonfire, which had been prepared for Saturday’s Bonfire and Firework Spectacular, and set light to it, burning it to the ground.
The council has confirmed there will still be a bonfire, and is currently getting in touch with local businesses to gather more pallets together to re-build a bonfire for Saturday’s event. The fireworks and funfair have been unaffected by this incident.
Susan Duncan, Slough events officer, said: “We won’t let this incident beat us, there will still be a bonfire on Saturday night, and are currently rebuilding it.
“However, the more pallets we get the better, and I am asking all businesses in the borough to call us if they have any.”
The Bonfire and Firework Spectacular takes place at Upton Court Park, Slough on Saturday 8 November. Tickets will be on sale from 11am to 2pm at Upton Court Park changing rooms on the day. Alternatively tickets can be purchased on the gate on the night, however the council would advise residents to get their tickets early to beat the queues. Tickets cost £6 for adults and £3 for children and senior citizens.
Gates open at 5.30pm. The bonfire will be lit at approximately 7.45pm and the fireworks display starts at 8.15pm.
If you have any pallets to donate, please call Sheryl Holland on 01753 875568.
