About us:
How could Acupuncture help ?
Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms. These include a wide variety of conditions such as:-
* anxiety and depression
* asthma and breathing difficulties
* back pain and sciatica
* circulatory problems and hypertension
* gall stones
* headaches and migraines
* pain relief
* skin conditions
* ulcers
* rheumatism
* ‘women’s’ problems and infertility
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for management of pregnancy and for pain relief during labour.
People also come for help with trying to overcome addictions such as smoking, alcohol and drugs, as well as to help with weight loss.
Once their condition has improved, many patients carry on with treatment as a preventive measure to strengthen and maintain their constitution.
Acupuncture can be used alongside Western Medicine in the treatment of both chronic and acute diseases.
What happens during a treatment?
Your initial visit is likely to last between one and a half to two hours. This is longer than visits after that. During this first visit, your general health is assessed and underlying patterns of imbalance identified in order to give you the best treatment.
You will be asked about
* your current symptoms
* any treatment you have received
* any medicines you are taking
* your medical history and that of
close family
* your diet and your digestive system
* your emotional state
To discover how the energies are flowing in the body, your pulses are felt on both wrists. An acupuncturist looks for strength and rhythm of the pulse, as well as certain qualities. The structure, colour, and coating of your tongue also give clues to your health.
After gathering information to determine the most likely cause of your problems, the most appropriate treatment is selected. The aim is to discover which of the channels which carry the energy around your body need adjusting and which need treatment to boost your overall energy.
There are about 500 recognised acupuncture points in the body although acupuncturists use only about 100 main ones. Stimulating these by inserting needles affects the functions of certain organs in the body.
